What group does your protists fall into; plant-like, animal-like, and fungi-like protists? What is the role, niche, of your protests within the envrionment? Read the other posts and write a comment about something that you have learned from someone else in class.

My protist is a plant-like algae. It's believed to be the ancestor of plants on land. It's also the base of the food chain and helps purify sewage. It also uses photosynthesis to create oxygen for us to breathe.
The protist that I did my powerpoint on are Diatoms. They are a part of the plant-like protist group. They can cause a disease called Amnesic shellfish poisoning. They can live in freshwater or saltwater environments. They are also an important food source for marine animals. They are made up of a shell.
my protist is red algae. it falls unter the plant-like group. red algae is also known as rhodophyta. (yeah good luck saying that word!) it's important role is in the primary establishment and maintenance of coral reefs.
I have dinoflagellates. They are plant-like protists. These protists spin in the water like tops. They get their energy through photosynthesis.
I learned that diatoms are made up of a shell and are important food sources for marine animals.
i learned that travis also has a plant-like type of protist. his protist is green algae (he didn't put that with his post!) but i learned that it helps purify sewage.. and it uses photosynthesis to create oxygen for us to breathe!
My protist is a downy mildew. It falls under the fungus-like group. It forms multcellular filaments. It decomposes dead organisms.
Travis's protist was green algae. Its the ancestor of plants on land and also help purify sewage. Emily had diatoms. They can cause Amnesic shellfish poisoning.
I learned that Punt's protist is Diatoms. They are in the plant-like group and they live in freshwater or saltwater environments. They are important for marine animals to eat.
My protist are ciliates. My protist falles into the animal-like protist group. Ciliates can be used to tell how much pollution is in a certain body of water because they vary greatly in their tolerance of pollution.
My protist is slime mold. It is a type of fungi-like protist. It helps the enviroment out in many ways because it helps decompose dead organims. It also helps convert other dead organic materials into new soil.
The posts so far are all plant-like protists. Travis's could be the ancestor of all plants on land. Plant-like protists use photosynthesis to make oxygen for us to breathe. Rachel's protist helps create coral reefs.
I learned about Travis that plant like algea are believed to be the ancestor of plants on LAND. They also help clean out sewage systems.
My protists, amoeba, falls under the animal-like category. Amoebas have many different roles. Amboebas cause dieases and a lot of diarhhea. It provides food for small animals. It also controls alage in ponds and lakes
I learned that red algae falls under the plant like group. I also learned that red algaes rols is the maintanence of coral reefs.
My prtotist is a water mold which is a funuslike protist. It's called Saprolegna, also called Sap. Sap is found in fresh water and is parasitic to fish. It basically eats away the "skin". There isn't much you can do to prevent this but to watch for because it spreads very quickly.
I learned that Chelseas protists is a plant-like protists. It gets its energy from photosynethsis. I also learned it spin in water.
Chelsea has dinoflagellates. They are plant-like protists. These protists spin in the water like tops. They get their energy through photosynthesis.
The protists that i have was the sporozoans. They are in the animal-like protists. They live in warm areas either in the body or around the world. The sporozoans can be passed to humans through mosquitoes. When the mosquito bites a human the sporozoans are injected and have to find a host cell to attach to. Also malaria is a disease that can be caused by sporozoans. Also the sporozoans attack the red bloods cells.
Diatoms are part of the plant-like algae. They live in bodies of water. Freshwater and saltwater. They are photosynthetic, and unicellular and have double shells. The two halves of a "box" can seperate. When they reproduce they produce full-sized offspring that have new shells.
